With Helen Kay.
Sattva Yoga for Performers Practice integrates all aspects of yoga, as opposed to focusing on one aspect in isolation.
It remains true to ancient tradition allowing for an ever-evolving, self-healing and authentic practice at the core of its teachings. This practice is a great leveller for the unpredictability of the performance industry.
The class will guide you on a traditional Himalayan yoga path; Sattva Integrated Practice; which combines Pranayama (warming the inside of the body by using our breath) to prepare for Hatha Yoga (balancing the right and left side of the body and freeing pathways so energy can flow) and Kriya Kundalini (repetitive movement, mantra, breath and mudras to create a moving meditation). Yoga is an ancient science of Self-Mastery, connection and evolution. Practised mindfully in our modern society, the practice will help you feel strong from the inside out, navigate ways to relax, find mental and physical strength and evolve in a safe, good-humoured and nurturing environment.
Helen is a Yoga Alliance USA certified instructor having trained with Sattva Yoga Academy, Rishikesh, India, guided by her guru Anand Mehrotra and the Master Teachers on their 200-hour teacher training programme.
Helen is also a professional actress, with over 30 years experience in the industry (most recently Lesley Milner, Private Investigator in Coronation Street). She uses traditional yoga - Sattva Integrated Practice as a balancing and healing tool for the huge amount of stress the body and mind endure when dealing with the unpredictability of life. Perfect for navigating the in and out of work as a performer and coping with the successes and disappointments of the job.
Yoga came into Helen’s life 8 years ago when the menopause hit her very badly. Practising Ashtanga, Iyengar and Sattva as a student helped her navigate this difficult time. Then her career as a professional actress was brought to an abrupt halt when she underwent 2 Achilles reattachment operations in the space of 2 years and had to learn to walk again. As she became mentally and physically stronger, the transformative and healing power of Sattva Yoga became her catalyst to train as a teacher. Her mantra is very much the Sattva way “acknowledge where your body is at and grow from there,” so this this beautiful practice is for everyone.
Sattva Yoga – rooted in the Himalayan tradition - enables an individual to lead a life of joy and possibility. For a creative, it is the perfect tool for combatting the ego mind and rising to the upper mind. It is a grounding practice offering empowerment and continued belief in oneself.
