TEXT STUDY - At The Table
With Simon Naylor
This block will take place over 5 weeks in three hour sessions and is the perfect class to fine-tune your process, develop the use of your imagination in character development, learn to trust your own process and to get yourself back in the room, on text. It will work as a perfect pre-course to our Scene Study sessions.
Since Covid kicked off we have struggled to get sessions back in the classroom - it's impossible to ask actors to remain socially distanced and without concern, whilst asking them to be focussed on the scene and achieving their objectives. So, we've developed new classes to bring you a development of what we've been delivering online.
Over 5 weeks, 6 actors will all work on different texts, each exploring the techniques used to mine a text for information as well as exploring objectives, working with actions and breaking down characters.
Working in intense detail on just one scene, the course will start with sight reading - bringing a text off the page to deliver a fresh and instant performance. From here into researching the play and the world in which it is set, exploring the characters and then using the techniques of several practitioners, we will get the scene rehearsal ready
At the end of the course, actors should have greater understanding of working on play/TV scripts and have gone some way to cementing their own process. In
PLEASE NOTE: Whereas we fully appreciate that there are some unavoidable situations, we would ask that students only sign up to this course who can FULLY commit to the full 5 weeks. In missing a week, not only will your work suffer, but your absence will have a detrimental effect on your colleagues.

reality, certainly in TV, such a process is essential due to the fast-pace at which things move and with fewer stage-acting training courses than ever, it offers a unique look into the processes needed to be ready. The course will mirror the training at established Drama UK schools across the country and provide an individual training for each actor. As such, no actor will be asked to adopt the process of someone else, but instead, mould and craft their own process using what works best for them.
