With Daniel Brennan.

A two day introduction to the work of “the grandmother of improvisational theatre”, Viola Spoiln.

Using a selection of her games and exercises, this workshop will cover aspects of Spolin’s approach to helping actors find spontaneity, courage, openness and the freedom to create without interference from personal inner critics.

Viola Spolin helped establish Chicago’s Second City improvisational company, which still uses her techniques today. Second City actors include: Tina Fey, Catherine O’Hara, Jordan Peele, Alan Alda, Eugene Levy, Alan Arkin, Amy Poehler and Bill Murray.

Day One

An introduction to the basic touchstones of Viola Spolin's theatre games: 'What', 'Where', and 'Who', as well as her signature 'Space Walks' and 'Space Objects'.

Day Two
Using the experience gained on Day One, more advanced games will be played to develop spontaneity, give-and-take, focus and intuition.

"Get out of you head, into your space" Viola Spolin
