Weekend Improv
With Simon Naylor
This improv weekend, led by Acting Coach Simon Naylor, uses the techniques of Augusto Boal, Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, Meisner and more to hone the instinct and listening of the actor. IT IS NOT ABOUT BEING FUNNY...although you will have a good time!!!
Over a series of games and exercises, the actors will work towards the goal of finding a comfortable state of mind in the studio, working with others without watching or censoring themselves. Actors will also explore and begin to understand the theory of transactional improvisation and it's use in all their work.
As the weekend progresses, the depth and connection to scenes and scenarios, often without text, will allow the actor to truly explore the
communications between actors in varying given circumstances.
Experienced actors will have the chance to push themselves outside of their comfort zone and develop their craft, whereas those new to improv will develop their impulses and strengthen their confidence in making choices within the given circumstances.
Simon has taught improvisation for nearly 10 years and has written the Improvisation module for Italia Conti BA (Hons) Course and the International School For Screen Acting, as well as developed several Improv courses across the country. His work takes actors from the very first uncertain steps, breaks through the need to use improv solely for comedy, allows individuals to connect to and trust their instincts, whilst sharing techniques and methods used by actors in rehearsals and character development stages, for stage and screen .
