Gypsy at Royal Exchange: saw this on Wednesday and Thought Mama Rose (Ria Jones) was excellent / powerful. Second thought was she must be bloody exhausted! To give such a connected, high energy and strong performance night after night in a Show that lasts 3 hours - no mean feat! Anyonelse seen it?

I saw it on Tuesday night. I know the older guy who played quite a few roles...one being Mr. Goldstone in the scene ‘Have an egg roll Mr Goldstone’ 🤣. Gypsy is one of my favourite musicals and I thought this was a really enjoyable production. Being in the round you really felt part of the show...we were right at the front. I thought the cast were really great and I enjoyed every minute...but agree it was just that little bit too long and people were getting a little restless towards the end of the first half. Strangely I met someone this week who had been to see it and she and her theatre companions didn’t enjoy it and felt it was very amateur. I don’t agree with them at all but shows you can’t please everyone all the time! 10* from me!
