SCENE STUDY

With Simon Naylor

This block will take place over 6 weeks, and allow actors to focus on tackling a contemporary script from day-one heading to performance level. Working in intense detail on just one scene, the course will start from researching the play and the world in which it is set, exploring the characters and then using the techniques of Stanislavski, Meisner and more to really hone the actors ability to listen, respond and remain truthful in the space.

At the end of the course, actors should have greater understanding of working on play/TV scripts and have gone some way to cementing their own process. In reality, certainly in TV, such a process is essential due to the fast-pace at which things move and with fewer stage-acting training courses than ever, it offers a unique look into the processes needed to succeed. The course will mirror the training at established UK Drama schools across the country and provide an individual training for each actor. As such, no actor will be asked to adopt the process of someone else, but instead, mould and craft their own process using what works best for them.

Simon trained in London as an actor before starting training as an acting teacher. Of 15+ years teaching across the UK, he was head of First Year and the Foundation Course on the BA (Hons) Acting Course at Italia Conti and was 1st and 2nd year acting tutor. During his time, he wrote the Improvisation and Foundation Courses which are still running today. As an actor, Simon has worked on Television, in Film and on stage including UK Tours and in the West End. Simon is now Artistic Director of arts charity 53two and a director with MAP Productions as well as directing shows across the North West and London.

PLEASE NOTE: The course is a progressive course and work will be done primarily in pairs, running to the model of professional actor training. Whereas we fully appreciate that there are some unavoidable situations, we would ask that students only sign up to this course who can FULLY commit to the full 6 weeks. In missing a week, not only will your work suffer, but your absence will have a detrimental effect on your working partner.

All classes will be Covid-safe with the correct measures required by the Govt, at that time.
