2016 saw our first ever MAP 48. 48 hours, a team that have never met, an unknown prop & 1 job.....
MAKE A FILM!
The results were phenomenal and far more than we could have ever hoped for. Well...
WE'RE BACK...AND BIGGER!
'The marathon of film making; pushing you to all the extremes,
cheered on by the most supportive people and at the end
- a feeling of real achievement!'
- Bradley Leech; Director of 'Out of It' - Overall Winner and People's Choice Winner 2016
Across the world, film projects, competitions and festivals are becoming increasingly popular. In Manchester, a hot-bed for start-up production companies, plays, theatres and the arts, there is a distinct lack of supported platforms for the film industry. With the developing quality of technology and the ever-increasing access to film-making equipment, it's only right that the industry should open its doors to emerging, film-making talent.
We at MAP, constantly striving to support new talent, intend to do just this, whilst having a bloody good weekend. Meeting on Friday 24th Feb at 6pm, individuals meet to be teamed up; actors, directors and writers are placed together at random, given one prop and set loose. Their aim? Create a film in just 48 hours, containing the prop, the actors and a whole lot of speedy work, using music of your choice, using the contacts you have in your circle of friends to provide the equipment and skill and anything else you have at your disposal.
As the clock ticks on, the footage must be passed to an editor (or a friend with the skills to edit!) for them to lay over the tracks, fix the mis-haps and finally, add on those all important credits, before submitting the finished product at 7pm Sunday 26th Feb for screening, judging and the awards, decided by our industry panel of judges!
It doesn't matter what you film on! Iphone or RED, the judging panel will make choices based on creativity, originality and style. There will be special awards for 'best actor', 'best use of prop', 'best writer' and 'best edit' to boot!
An incredible weekend for all involved and one of what, we hope, will roll for years to come!

'No better way to learn on the job then to throw yourself into a short
film that doesnt exist on Friday and is screened on Sunday. A fantastic
opportunity to work under pressure to conceive, write, rehearse, shoot
and edit a short film in just two days.
Not to be missed!'
-John Tueart; Actor in 'The Fifth Man' 2016
What if I don't know any film crew?
We're fairly confident that amongst the director, actors and writers that you will find some willing folk! Start searching before the big weekend if you need to. If you still can't find help, then MAP may be able to throw a few names in your direction.
How do I edit?
Editing is a tough job! If you don't have experience in it, we'd recommend enlisting the help of someone who does. You can start searching for editors now - that's not against the rules. Just remember that you can't pay anyone. If you can't find anyone, you can even do simple edits on your Iphone. Editing is just one element of the final product so don't fret!
What do I win?
There are three 'places' for the overall films. Alongside this, there are awards for Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Use of Music, Best Use Of Prop. Winners of the individual categories will take home a small token of their win, a certificate and, most importantly, a whole heap of pride! Winners of the overall competition will take home a token, certificate and a cash prize TBC.
What if I enrol but can't then make the weekend?
To enrol, each team member will be asked to pay £25. This is to cover the costs of venue hire, screening etc. Once you have paid, this fee is non-refundable. If for whatever reason MAP48 doesn't take place, we will refund everyone's money.
How much do we all help with the writing, direction etc?
Each team will work to their own rules, and, as with anything, the director should make the final decisions based on what they think is best for the production.
